As stipulated in the by-laws, here is the full agenda for the July 13, 10am Special Meeting:a. reading of the notice of meeting;b. action on matter stated in notice (discussion and vote on by-laws change); andc. adjournmentThe purpose of this by-laws amendment, approved by our board, is to explicitly communicate our congregation's alignment with Reconstructing Judaism's official position as a progressive Zionist movement, similar to the language we currently use on our synagogue website. Here, therefore, is the proposed change to the by-laws approved by our Board of Trustees that will be discussed and voted on at the July 13 Special Meeting:• Article II in our current by-laws:ARTICLE IIPURPOSEThis Congregation has been organized to maintain a synagogue for communal worship and religious observance; to maintain a school for instruction in Judaism; and to operate a nursery school. The Reconstructionist Synagogue of the North Shore is a congregation where community is at the core. It shall be a participatory, egalitarian community that embraces the diversity of our members, including our interfaith families. We empower our members to view learning as a lifelong endeavor, and understand Jewish learning to be creative and dynamic. We are a community where tradition informs the present, and where belief translates into action as we reach beyond our Congregation to make the world a better place.• Proposed two-word addition to Article II:PURPOSEThis Congregation has been organized to maintain a synagogue for communal worship and religious observance; to maintain a school for instruction in Judaism; and to operate a nursery school. The Reconstructionist Synagogue of the North Shore is a congregation where community is at the core.
